ASUU also criticised the Muhammadu Buhari administration for approving the establishment of eight new Universities.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday, November 14, declared a nationwide strike.
ASUU’s President, Biodun Ogunyemi announced that the industrial action begins from November 16.
He disclosed this after an emergency
National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which held at its headquarters
located inside the University of Abuja.
According to Ogunyemi, this would be a
one-week warning strike pending the Federal Government's response to
subsisting demands raised by the union.
He said if the government fails to do the needful before the end of the warning strike, it would declare an indefinite action.
ASUU also faulted the recent approval
granted by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the establishment of
eight new universities.
It said the rationale for establishing more
universities when the existing ones are in such a deplorable state calls
to question the policies of the Muhammadu Buhari administration regarding education.
