Desperation Woman steals fellow tenant's one-month-old baby

A barren woman has been arrested for stealing her fellow tenant's one-month-old baby.

A childless 30-year-old woman, Peace Chukwuemeka, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom Police Command for allegedly stealing her fellow tenant's one-month-old baby.

The disclosure was made by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Murtala Mani, while speaking with newsmen on the command's activities on Tuesday, November 8, in Uyo, Punch reports.
Speaking through his representative, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, he said that the suspect lived in the same compound with the mother of the baby at Mbak Itam in Itu Local Government Area.
Punch reports that the family unit of the command trailed the suspect, rescued and reunited the baby with its mother.
He said, “In November, the ACID Section through the Family Unit recorded a great feat by bringing back a one month and some few days old baby to her mother in Akwa Ibom.
“The suspect, who has been married for some years without a baby, left Lagos State to Uyo, stayed in a compound in Mbak Itam with the intention to steal a baby from her neighbour.
“The Family Unit, through intelligence report, was able to rescue the baby and returned her to the mother."
While speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the mother of the child identified as Fatima Ibrahim, thanked God for the return of her baby. She also claimed to have been drugged by Peace, who later stole the baby while she was asleep.
Punch reports that the suspect confessed to the crime, lamenting that she had been married for 10 years without an issue.

Peace, however, denied drugging the mother of the child before taking the baby.
“I did not give anything to the mother, it was coincident she was asleep and I seized that opportunity to take the baby.
“I have been married for 10 years, so I needed a baby of my own. I took the baby to my mother in the village but she refused to collect her from me.
“So I came back to Akwa Ibom and the owner of the baby started asking me for her baby, so I was arrested,” Chukwuemeka said.
The command's PR also said that they rescued a four-year-old boy who was snatched at gunpoint from his mother by a young man.
