As the year draws to its end, and the diaries are dusted again for
another ritual that involves 2017 pledges and plans, it doesn’t have to
out with a whimper. There are enough concerts for you to celebrate the
holiday with.
It’s the end of 2016, with just over a month
left before we whip out our diaries and begin our ‘New Year’ resolution
ritual. Yep. 2016 is almost at its end, and activities are in place for
artistes to cash out via performances.
Where
previous years have been dominated by the traditional mega concerts
which feature a long list of performers and one major star, this year is
different. The focus of this year’s growth of stars have been on their
person, and they are wielding it as a tool to generate personal,
independent income. Independent, artiste-driven concerts is the new
thing.
2016
is the year where artistes have grown bolder, and have chosen to
maximize their celebrity and fan base to create personal concerts. Phyno’s successful Phynofest 2016 has
left many with the inspiration to do more. The rapper whose concert is
in its second year and took place on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the
Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium was by every standard a success. Over 25 thousand
people were present, screaming to his every word, and enjoying his
performance.
That showed the power and
influence that Phyno commands from his home base, and many artistes who
hitherto have felt a bit scared are looking at these concerts. They
might not fill stadiums, or command the attention that Phyno received.
But they will be giving their fans a personal performance of their
music, and taking independent data from attendees.
This
data can then be used to generate a personal marketing plan, and also
give them a rough estimate of how much they have in the bag in terms of
fan base, and inspire them to work harder.Phyno’s
Western counterpart, Olamide is aiming for a
third personal concert with his annual “Olamide Live In Concert 3
(OLIC3). The rapper enjoys one of the strongest followings in the
country, and a publicized personal concert is just a no-brainer for an
artiste of his clout. This year promises to be an extension of that and
fans are already looking forward to it.Wizkid is giving fans an overload this year. The singer
who has consistently pushed the glass ceiling this year, and chased the
promotion of Nigerian music in different markets is returning home with two concerts. Wizkd has announced the venues for his homecoming Lagos concert to be at The Eko Convention Centre and The New Afrika
Shrine. He will be closely followed by Reekado Banks, who is
appreciating his fans in Lagos with a “Thank You” concert scheduled to
hold at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos. There is also a concert by his
Starboy affiliate, Mr Eazi, to mark his incredible rise
in the industry and put more money in his pockets. Eazi is a very
credible winner of the year 2016 in Nigerian music. Other artistes who
all have concerts planned include Solidstar (Festac), Yung6ix (Warri) and many more.
There’s a lot to gain from this. The music
industry is a breathing, dynamic behemoth, which runs through the entire
country, and affects the lives of many individuals in various ways.
Bringing in personalized concerts to make the music come alive is a
development that benefits all parties involved.
As
the year draws to its end, and the diaries are dusted again for another
ritual that involves 2017 pledges and plans, it doesn’t have to out
with a whimper. There are enough concerts for you to celebrate the
holiday with.
