PDP crisis: Why Makarfi faction dumps peace process – Sheriff
The factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, said the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee abandoned the reconciliation process between them because they were assured that the Appeal and Supreme Court judgements would be in their favour.
The peace process was abandoned because Sheriff faction failed to show up at the venue of the inauguration of the 24-member reconciliation committee that would midwife the peace initiative.
Acting factional Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, who briefed the press on Friday, alleged that three PDP governors, one from South West and two from South-South asked Makarfi to discontinue with the peace talk as they had taken care of the cases in the Appeal and Supreme Courts.
“However, the Senator Ahmed Makarfi’s people reneged on all agreements reached and eventually disappeared from the meetings.
“It gratifying to note that our confidence in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court is unshaken judging by the ruling of Salauwa JCA when he adjourned for hearing the Appeals in Abuja,” Ojougboh added.
He said Sheriff and members of his faction are interested in repositioning PDP and stop it from being hijacked by powerful individuals.
