Report: Military maps out evacuation route for Trump in NYC
The three military aircraft seen flying over New York City last week were taking part in mapping out potential escape routes for President-elect Donald Trump, two sources told CNN on Thursday.
The law enforcement officials told the news source that the HC-130 search and rescue plane and two HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters were conducting surveillance operations that included taking photos of rooftops and streets for Secret Service. The sight of the flying aircraft above the city frightened many New Yorkers last week who
were not notified about the military operation beforehand.
"We've spoken with the FAA and the Secret Service to make sure that the protocol is followed and we get proper notification in the future," said the New York Office of Emergency Management spokeswoman Nancy Silvestri, as reported by CNN.
The sources told the news network that the surveillance was used to develop potential escape routes in case Trump had to be removed from the Trump Tower, from where he currently directs most of his transition operations.
Trump has previously hinted that he is considering frequent visits to his New York residence after he gets sworn into office in January, and his wife Melania is expected to stay there with their young son for the first few months of his tenure.
