The arrest of 53 people at a gay wedding in Kaduna State a few days ago has raised the anger of Reverend Jide Macaulay, Nigeria's foremost gay pastor as he has fired a salvo at the security agencies in the country.
In a series of tweets, Rev. Macaulay who
runs a gay church called House of Rainbow in his base in London, said
the security agencies in Nigeria are leaving the important work of
providing security for the nation, going after corrupt politicians and
combating insurgency and pursuing homosexuals going about their businesses.
Macaulay,
the son of a Baptist reverend also sounded a note of warning to other
gays living in Nigeria that they are an endangered as even their friends
and brothers are capable of selling them out to the police to be
prosecuted.Since coming out as gay years ago and divorcing from his wife, Rev.
Macaulay has been having a running battle with Nigerian officials over
the stigmatization of gays in the country and was in the forefront of
condemning the regime of President Goodluck Jonathan for enacting the
law prohibiting same-sex marriage in the country.
