Hunger In The Land 24-yr-old man arrested for stealing pot of soup in Delta

An hungry young man has been arrested in Delta State for allegedly breaking into the house of a neighbour to steal a pot of soup.

The pervading harsh economic condition has forced a 24-year-old man identified simply as Oghenero, into stealing a pot of soup which has led to his arrest by the police.

New Telegraph reports that the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command after he allegedly broke into the kitchen of a neighbour to steal the steaming pot of soup.

Oghenero was initially arrested by local vigilantes along the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Road in Warri, where he and his friends were enjoying a meal of 'Fufu' (cassava meal) with the soup, before he was handed over to the police.
It was gathered that Oghenero's arrest came after a local task force was set up in the area to check incessant stealing of foodstuffs in the area.

Confessing to his crime, the young man said he was pushed into stealing the food because he was hungry and had not eaten for days since he had no job.
