Iyanya is officially a Mavin artiste which is really no surprise to anyone at this point, even to those in jupiter, the cave men and the not-so-music enthusiastic folks around us. We all know what the deal is.
We know because Don Jazzy made the announcement himself via Twitter on Monday, October 31, 2016 and stirred a vortex of reactions just after.
It became a trending topic before long and will probably stay so till the day winds up into Tuesday, November 1, 2016.
The move is iconic. It is something many didn't see coming
Well, only time will tell because as they say impossible is nothing.
Iyanya closed shop with Ubi Franklin in July 2016 on the grounds that he was leaving Triple MG which they jointly set up to go set up another label of his, but in a funny twist he ends up inking a deal with Temple Management Company first, and then later with Mavin Records.
Sweet move! But as sweet and strategic as it is on paper, it feels a bit dangerous for Iyanya on the flip side of things.
We wish it was a partnership like the case of Jay Z and Def Jam signing Nas back then so that Jay Z’s Def Jam was reported to finance the production and marketing costs of two albums for Nas Jones with profits (and losses) split with Sony Music in the end.
We wish it was something as huge as that, as the deal in question put some three million dollars into Nas’ pocket according to reports, including a recording fee for both albums.
