John Mikel Obi Lack of playing time not affecting midfielder’s place in Super Eagles

Rohr also believes that the midfielder is being punished for representing Nigeria in the 2016 Olympic Games.

Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has revealed that John Mikel Obi’s place in the team will not be affected by his lack of playing time at Chelsea.

Mikel is yet to make an appearance for Chelsea this season under Antonio Conte, but Rohr is not concerned about it because the midfielder has been training well.
Rohr also believes that the midfielder is being punished for representing Nigeria in the 2016 Olympic Games.“We spoke about Mikel when I was at Chelsea last month,” Rohr is quoted to say by Kwesé Sports.
“He trains very well with the team but he is being punished for deciding to go to the Olympic Games for Nigeria.
He is training well and doing I will play him here because very well for us. I cannot punish him for deciding to make a sacrifice for Nigeria.

But we speak and I listen to him. If he says he is tried and wants to go out, I will take him out, if he says he wants to continue, he will continue, but I listen to him and he listens to me.”
Mikel is expected to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria when they take on Algeria on Saturday, November 12.
