Well, that didn’t take long at all. Davido’s record label has a new female on it, and she has already been crowned the ‘First Lady’.
Lola Rae has been signed by the new record label, blaunching a new conversation about the direction of the record label.
Lola Rae, is a Nigerian-born
British-Ghanaian recording artist and dancer who shot to limelight upon
the release of her debut single ‘Watch my ting go’, which was
met to critical acclaim and thus earned her a nominee spot in the "Most
Promising Female Act to Watch" category at the 2013 Nigeria
Entertainment Awards.
Following 'Watch my ting go', Rae featured Iyanya on a song titled ‘Fi mi le’
which earned Rae another nomination at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment
Awards. She made a cameo appearance as Ice Prince's love interest in the
music video of his song ‘More’.
The singer has been awarded Most Gifted Newcomer at The Channel O Africa Music Video Awards (2013) for 'Watch my tin go' and 'Most Promising Act to Watch at
The Nigerian Entertainment Awards (2013). Lola Rae in 2016 has released
two songs, ‘One Time’, and a collaboration with Davido, ‘Biko’.
What does Lola Rae bring to the table?
What
Lola Rae has right now is potential. Lola Rae has immense potential to
be a great star. Boasting of talents, the looks, the vocals and the
presence, she has all the tools to be great. Consistency has just been
her drawback.
Where she has talent going for her, she has
never found a solid platform to guide her through and concentrate on
getting out the music. That’s why she has been releasing her content in
bits and parts. There has never been a concerted push to implant Lola
Rae as the next leading lady of the music industry.
But she has that now. Lola Rae gives extra creativity to the record label and also adds to the branding of the establishment.
Having a female in their ranks means there’s
an extra person for collaborations and also a go-to female vocalist for
the hooks. She is well versed in different sounds, due to her training
in the UK, hence she is almost the perfect dovetail for Dremo’s energy
on future rap tracks.
Lola Rae has all
the required skills and branding to be a success at DMW. All she needs
is a concerted, strategic, and consistent release of content.
