Some residents in Lagos State are not taking the ban of the LAGBUS (Red Buses) from plying the dedicated Ikorodu Road corridor by the state government lying low as they have trooped out to protest the action.
The government had, through the acting Commissioner for Transportation, Anofiu Elegushi,
banned all LAGBUS buses from taking the corridor beginning from today,
Monday, November 7, 2016, saying the decision was to introduce
Intelligent Traffic System along the BRT corridor.
The explanation meant that all other franchises apart from the BRT (blue buses) had to relocate from the corridor.Eyewitnesses report that the sudden enforcement of the ban has become a nightmare for residents
of Ikorodu and other parts of the route as they were stranded with no
buses to convey them to their places of work owing to the fact that the
red bus drivers and hoodlums shut down the BRT Lanes, hindering even the
Blue buses from operating.

This
was said to have left people plying Ikorodu-Mile
12-Ketu-Ojota-Maryland-Oshodi routes with no means of transportation,
thereby leading to the protest.
Drivers
and ticketers of LAGBUS took to the highway at Majidun in Ikorodu area
to protest the ban on their vehicles from plying the dedicated BRT lanes
across the state with other protesters seen displaying leaves in front
of the State depot for LAMATA Blue BRT buses Terminal.
The
development caused heavy gridlock from Majidun to Benson bus stop with
commuters complaining of the hardship they were made to go through
because of the withdrawal of the buses from the route.

The
drivers and the ticketers have, therefore, decided to take matters into
their hands, vowing to trek from Ikorodu to the State House at Alausa
to press home their demand There are fears that hoodlums and the famous 'Area Boys' could take
advantage of the situation to wreck havoc on the residents as they are
always do.
